Seit Jahren bemüht sich die griechische Gemeinde in Ratingen um geeignete und zuletzt um einen Neubau in der Stadt nahe Düsseldorf. Denn die alten Räumlichkeiten am Hauser Ring sind nicht mehr zumutbar. Das griechische Zentrum ist dort in einem erbärmlichen Zustand. Das Dach ist nicht mehr so recht dicht, Isolierung fehlt, die Abwasserleitungen laufen nicht mehr ab.
Zunächst wollte die Stadt der Gemeinde 2007 einen Pavillon schenken, doch damals fehlte der Gemeinde das nötige Geld, bzw. war es mit hohen Kosten bis zu 200.000 € verbunden, den Pavillon von einem Ort der Stadt zum Anderen zu transportieren und ihn dort aufzubauen.
Der Rat der Stadt Ratingen beschloss dann am 22.04.2008 der griechischen Gemeinde einen Neubau als Ersatz des derzeitigen maroden Altbaus zu genehmigen. Doch den Griechen weht jetzt Gegenwind der Bürger Union ins Gesicht, da anstelle der genehmigten 130 qm auf Grundlage der eingereichten Pläne, sie nun 228 qm bauen wollen ohne es irgendwo vermerkt zu haben.
Die Fraktion der Bürger Union stellte beim Bürgermeister daher den Antrag, den Bau mit den neuen Absichten der Griechen nicht so zu genehmigen. Am 15.12.2009 wird es in der Ratssitzung erneut diskutiert.
Doch so lange will der emsige Vorsitzende der Ratinger Griechen, Leonidas Stamatopoulos nicht warten. “Die ursprünglichen Pläne wie sie auch vom Rat genehmigt worden sind, haben wir nicht verändert”, sagte er ellasnet und hat keinen Zweifel daran, dass hier ein großes Missverständnis vorliegt. “Die Bruttofläche betrug von Beginn an 220 qm, daher stellen sich die Fragen, ob die Bürger Union uns das Leben nur schwer machen wollen oder die wirklich hier etwas falsch Verstanden haben,” so Stamatopoulos. Deshalb hat er persönlich mit dem Vorstand der Bürger Union, die auch den Bürgermeister der Stadt stellen, Kontakt aufgenommen und ihn am Sonntag zu einem klärenden Gespräch eingeladen. Fraktionsvorsitzender Lothar Diehl hätte schon zugesagt. “Die erste Rate ist doch von der Stadt an die Baufirma bezahlt worden”, hofft der Vorsitzende von 1200 Griechen in der Stadt Ratingen auf schnelle Klärung.
