Mit den Einnahmen aus dem Fest soll der Neubau des griechischen Gemeindezentrums am Hauser Ring finanziert werden.
„Das Gemeindezentrum ist für uns sehr wichtig“, erklärten Ewangelos Makos (2. Vorsitzender) und Thomas Voulkidis (Schriftführer). Damit das Fest ein Erfolg wird, hatten sie viel Werbung gemacht, als Ehrengäste konnten sie am Samstagabend die Oberbürgermeister von Thessaloniki und der Provinz Thrakien unter den Gästen begrüßen.
Das gesammelte Geld wird in den Innenausbau des neuen griechischen Zentrums fließen. Denn um den Neubau hatte es lange und zähe Verhandlungen gegeben. Der von der Stadt zur Verfügung gestellte Pavillon ist in einem desolaten Zustand, eine Sanierung würde sich nicht lohnen. Die Verwaltung und die griechische Gemeinde einigten sich darauf, dass die Stadt für den Neubau einen Investitionszuschuss in Höhe von 210 000 Euro gibt, der Innenausbau und die Pflege der Außenanlage wird von der griechischen Gemeinde übernommen. Um das Geld aufzutreiben, gründete sich ein Förderverein.
Der Beschluss über diese Lösung durchläuft derzeit die unterschiedlichen Gremien. Bei der Gemeinde hofft man auf einen Baubeginn im Mai. „Wir stehen in den Startlöchern“, sagte Thomas Voulkidis. Denn die Gemeinde hat viele Pläne für die Zukunft und möchte die Angebote für ihre Mitglieder, aber auch für alle anderen Ratinger deutlich ausbauen.
„Unter unseren 180 Mitglieder sind etwa 35 Deutsche“, erklärt Ewangelos Makos. Viele von ihnen würden gerne griechische Sprachkurse belegen. Außerdem sollen die Tanzkurse für Kinder und Jugendliche ausgebaut werden, und auch über eine Über-Mittag-Betreuung denkt man am Hauser Ring nach. „Wir wollen ein Zentrum für Jung und Alt aufbauen, wo sich nicht nur Griechen, sondern auch Deutsche treffen können“, so Makos. „Aber dazu brauchen wir Platz.“
